Anti doping in sport

Anti-doping programs are founded on the intrinsic value of sport. This intrinsic value is often referred to as “the spirit of sport”: the ethical pursuit of human excellence through the dedicated perfection of each Athlete’s natural talents.

Anti-doping programs seek to protect the health of Athletes and to provide the opportunity for Athletes to pursue human excellence without the Use of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

Key activities

World Antidoping Agency WADA’s key activities include:

• ensuring and monitoring effective implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code and its related International Standards;
• scientific and social science research;
• education;
• intelligence and investigations;
• building antidoping capacity with anti-doping organizations worldwide.

International standards for testing and investigation are mandatory standards for all athletes, no matter from which sport or which country they are.

The document „International standards“ defines mandatory standards for the efficient and effective gathering, assessment and use of antidoping inteligence in the organizations and contains mandatory standards for the efficient and effective conduct of investigations into possible anti doping rule violations.

WADA also establish a monitoring program regarding substances which are not on the Prohibited List, but which WADA wishes to monitor in order to detect potential patterns of misuse in sport.

The List of prohibited substances and methods is updated every year and it comes on force on the first day of January of the year. Athletes and athletes personell and entourage should be aware where to find the Updated list.

The WADA CODE is the core document that harmonizes anti-doping policies, rules and regulations within sport organizations and among public authorities around the world.
