New medical procedures and competition management in WAKO

Important notice to all WAKO Europe members

Important notice to all WAKO Europe members: national federations and clubs.

Please make sure that you have been informed of below in order to avoid non-compliance with the rules, sanctions and inconvenience at upcoming competitions due to lack of information.

Medical procedures:

  • At each competition, each competitor must present a valid medical certificate. On the second page of the certificate, you can find a list of medical examinations that a kickboxer must undergo in order to get a medical certificate.
  • A new medical certificate form is WAKO Medical Certificate Kickboxer – 2025-0 – fillable. The change is in the format of displaying mandatory exams on the second page of the certificate. All medical certificates should be on the new form, while certificates issued before that are still valid and can be used until expiration.
  • Medical Procedure that must be followed at every competition (national and international).
  • The official doctor at the competition must keep two forms – “Medical Emergency Report” – in case of injury and “Head Injury Card” in case of KO caused by a blow to the head.
  • In case an athlete is suspended for a medical reason, the doctor in charge of the competition must immediately inform the person in charge of the technical aspects of the competition (organizing committee, technical director. etc.), in order to remove the suspended athlete from further fights within the same event.
  • The head doctor or the representative of the federation and/or the organizer are obliged to submit all completed forms of injuries and KO to the WAKO Medical Committee – [email protected] immediately after the competition.
  • The Chairman of the WAKO Medical and Anti-Doping Committee will review the submitted reports and, if necessary, will determine a medical suspension that is entered on the competitor’s profile on the RSportz platform.
  • Following the current WAKO Medical Regulations, knocked out athletes have to be suspended for a period of 30 days, and athletes must be considered suspended from competition and training, in every Kickboxing discipline and in other sports.
  • After the suspension period, a medical clearance (in English) for the athlete must be provided and communicated to the WAKO Medical, Health and Anti-Doping Committee – [email protected] – by the National Kickboxing Federation, in order to allow the athlete to participate in other WAKO competitions. The medical clearance must be written in English and must report date and negative result of a brain MRI/CT scan, as per WAKO Medical Rules (art. 7): “After a medical restriction period, the kickboxer must provide a medical clearance (new medical certificate) through National Federation attesting that kickboxer is fit again to compete in kickboxing. The medical clearance must be written in English and must report the date when the brain CT or MRI scan has been done and that this exam resulted negative. Copy of this clearance must be provided to the Medical, Health & Anti-Doping Committee to allow the kickboxer to take part to future WAKO events”.
  • The official doctor and/or representative of the national federation and/or the competition organizer is obliged to inform the competition doctor on duty about the attached Medical Procedure and hand him the injury and KO forms.

The following important information is related to:

Competition management and scoring systems

  • As you know, the new member of the WAKO Organizing Committee is Adil Triqui from Germany, who will cover the area of ​​competition management, scoring systems and OVR (On-Venue Results).
  • Adil’s main task is to ensure that all world and continental championships and world and continental cups are organizationally and technically standardized so that the WAKO Organizing Committee has full control over the conduct and results of championships and cups that are WAKO ranking competitions.
  • All organizers of world and continental cups/championships should contact Adil to arrange the onsite team to run this event without any issues (Sportdata).
  • Adil is also responsible for on-line and on-site education and training national administrators on managing domestic, local and international competitions.
  • Therefore, all national federations are invited to contact Adil – [email protected]  to arrange an online seminar with him on managing competitions and using the scoring system.
  • The intention is that each national federation will have its own technical staff (at least 2 administrators) who will open, manage and run national, local and international competitions organized by their federations on the Sportdata website.
