WADA President Sir Craig Reedie cemented the need for continued cooperation and partnerships with global sports leaders at the 2014 SportAccord Convention in Belek, Turkey this week.

Accompanied by a WADA delegation, the WADA President used a series of presentations to set out his vision for the Agency, including the immediate responsibilities facing International Federations (IFs) in the implementation of the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code (Code). Reedie presented to general assemblies and annual meetings of the umbrella organizations of Summer Olympic IFs (ASOIF), Winter Olympic IFs (AIOWF) and IOC-recognized IFs (ARISF), in addition to the International World Games Association (IWGA).  He also held individual meetings with a number of IF and IF Umbrella Organization Presidents, and participated in a Convention panel on sport integrity.

“Maintaining close relations with all parties will play an essential part in ensuring we are able to effectively protect the clean athletes,” said WADA President Sir Craig Reedie.  “IFs have a central role to play in protecting the integrity of sport, and WADA will continue to provide them support by offering advice and expertise wherever needed in the coming months.”

The WADA delegation delivered presentations to the Alliance of Independent Members of SportAccord (non-IOC recognized IFs) and held numerous meetings with IFs and other sport organizations – such as the Commonwealth Games Federation – throughout the week.

On Thursday, WADA and the Association of Recognized International Federations held the first ARISF-WADA Anti-Doping Coaching & Training Session. This joint initiative featured a series of discussions and presentations from anti-doping practitioners, WADA representatives and anti-doping experts focusing on a variety of areas including prevention, information sharing, doping control, results management, and cooperation with National Anti-Doping Organizations.

“This first ARISF-WADA anti-doping workshop was a true success,” said Frédéric Donzé, Director of WADA’s European Regional Office and IF Relations. “It allowed recognized IFs, WADA and anti-doping stakeholders to share expertise in an open and transparent fashion. WADA would like to thank ARISF for this joint initiative. We look forward to repeating the session in the future.”

The 2014 SportAccord Convention brought together more than 1,600 leading representatives from across the world of sport.
